You don’t need a plan for the hours between dinner and dessert this year. Thanksgiving Minute to Win It Games turn candy, cups, and a kitchen timer into forty different sixty-second challenges the whole table can play. Read one card, start the clock, and watch how fast everyone forgets about their phones.
Why Minute to Win It Games Are the Move This Thanksgiving
The format barely needs explaining, which is the whole point. Sixty seconds, one challenge, done. Grandma can play the same round as your six-year-old cousin, and neither one has an advantage the other doesn’t. Nothing here calls for special equipment either, candy, cups, straws, cranberries, things already floating around a Thanksgiving kitchen. Set a timer, read the challenge out loud, and let it run.
Setup Options (Pick However You Want to Play)
- One Player at a Time: someone takes on the challenge while everyone watches and counts down. Clean finish, one point.
- Head-to-Head: two players race the same challenge at once. First one done wins the point, which speeds things up with a bigger group.
- Team Play: split into teams and send up one player per round. Whoever’s got the most points when the last challenge wraps takes it.
- Free for All: everybody plays at the same time. Fair warning, this is the loud one.
Let the Game Name Strips Pick for You
Skip the debate over which challenge goes next. Cut apart the included Game Name Strips, fold them up, and drop them in a bowl. Draw one at random between rounds, whatever comes out is what you’re playing. Nobody has to be the one deciding what’s fair.
A Few to Try First
- Pumpkin Pie Dig is the messiest one on the list, and that’s exactly why it goes first. Hands behind your back, face in a whipped-cream-topped pie tin, digging out candy pumpkins with just your mouth. Lay the paper towels down before this one.
- Turkey Belly Waddle looks easy until someone actually tries it. Squeeze a balloon between your knees and waddle to the finish line without dropping it. Nobody makes it look graceful.
- Hidden Cranberry Shell Game is the quiet one at the table finally getting a turn. Find the cranberry hidden under one of three overturned cups, three guesses, no running required.
Keeping Score
The included Score Card has room for names across the top and rounds down the side. Write in players or teams, mark a point every time someone wins a round, and whoever’s got the most when you run out of challenges takes it. Or skip the card entirely and just play for the chaos, both ways work.
You Don’t Have to Play All Forty in One Sitting
Run a handful of these in twenty minutes, or work through the whole lineup for an afternoon that never runs out of steam. However far you get, the printable set includes all 40 challenge cards plus the Score Card, Game Name Strips, Supply List, and Instructions page, ready to print and cut apart.

Setting Up for Success
Keep a timer somewhere everyone can see it, a phone propped up works fine. Read the challenge out loud before the clock starts so nobody’s guessing mid-round. If a challenge involves whipped cream or anything messy, put the paper towels down first, future you will thank present you. And if two people can’t agree on who finished first, the host makes the call. That’s the rule that keeps it fun instead of an argument.
Once Thanksgiving’s wrapped, keep the momentum going into the next holiday, our Christmas Minute to Win It Games post has 44 more challenges waiting.
